Breast Revision

Breast revision surgery is a surgical procedure that is performed when women want to improve the appearance of their breasts after a prior breast surgery. The most common reasons patients undergo breast revision are:

  • A change in implant size is desired
  • Implants begin to leak or shift
  • Breast size or skin elasticity has changed over time

Women who seek breast revision surgery should be in good overall health and desire to restore a more natural appearance to their breasts. Even though breast revision is an effective procedure, patients should be realistic about the outcome.

The procedure usually takes only a couple of hours and is performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Depending on what needs to be improved or corrected will determine which breast implants are used and which surgical technique will be applied.

After the breast revision is complete, patients will be sore and tired for a couple of days. These symptoms can be alleviated by prescribed pain medication and patients can expect to return to work in a little over a week. Any exercise or strenuous activity should be avoided for at least one month.

Women are generally very pleased with the outcome of breast revision surgery. Patients are often glad that they underwent the procedure and no longer have to live with the embarrassment of their breast imperfections.
