A breast lift (“mastopexy”) is a surgical procedure that can correct the sagging and hanging of the breasts. The goal of this procedure is to reshape the breasts and elevate them to a higher, more attractive position.

Ideal candidates for breast lift surgery are women who are in good overall health and have drooping breasts due to the consequences of pregnancy or weight gain. Individuals should undergo surgery for their own benefit, and not because of pressure from others.

A breast lift takes a few hours to complete and is performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. There are different incision techniques that can be used depending on the amount of sagging, the size of the areolas, and the skin quality on the breasts.

  • Doughnut Mastopexy – incision around the areola
  • Lollipop Mastopexy – incision around the areola that extends vertically down the breast crease
  • Anchor Mastopexy – incision around the areola that extends both vertically and horizontally

Once the surgery is complete, swelling and discomfort will be apparent. However, these symptoms will subside over the next few days with the help of prescribed medication and plenty of rest. Patients usually return to work after a week of downtime, but should abstain from any physical activity or exercise for about one month.

The results of a breast lift are very noticeable and the majority of women are pleased with their new look. Patients often feel happy that they were able to restore a more youthful appearance to their breasts and attain a renewed sense of confidence.
